New Zealand MZ Skorpion 660 Sport....

Who said we don't have MuZ bikes on this blog anymore? Did you? Phil from New Zealand has sent in some photos of his wonderful yellow Sport. I live in New Zealand and have owned a MZ Skorpion 660 Sport for going on a year now (1994 model. I am only the 2nd owner of this awesome bike which is in amazing condition considering it was one of the first off the block. The first owner was a guy in his middle years who mainly used it for commuting and told me he had never red lined it since he had owned it from new. It had done a genuine 36000ks when I got it and has now done just under 40ks. I ride Muz to work every day the weather lets me which is a 50 km round trip on a really good country road for a bit of fun with no cops around. I have only just got back into bikes at the age of 54 and am enjoying every minute of it especially having the pleasure of riding such an awesome machine. The bikes I rode in my youth were enduro type from the 70s with no better handling on the roads than a h...

Some MZ RT125 help needed...

Alan Moll posted a comment to this article... The petite MZ... I thought it was worth a post of it's own. So over the Allan.... Alan Moll said... Hi there, I have the 04 RT 125 and love it to pieces, the latter part of that sentence becoming more true every day it seems. I don't know or claim to know much about bikes so if you could give me some pointers to hitting higher speeds with my bike that would be great! The real question I want to ask is where I could find a manual for the bike or at least an engine layout and or diagram? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated if someone could e-mail me at alanmoll@aol.com and I will also check back here for answers... To be helpful as well, I've never had problems with the bike and it's great fun to zip around the city with reasonable power and great handling, the bike goes surprisingly far over considering it's weight and appearance. I would recommend this bike but have had problems around Norwic...

Bruce Campbell's Tour for sale.

If you live in Australia and you want to buy a good used Scorpion I can highly recommend you look at Bruce's Tour. He is selling his. I have had a short ride on it and it is a very well sorted machine. Handles way better than mine. No problems with the gearbox of clutch. Here is a short run down on the bike from Bruce…. LAMS approved. MuZ's use a Yamaha XTZ660 engine so parts and servicing are easy. Sale includes: Genuine fairing kit incl all brackets, mirrors etc. Upgraded headlight (TRX850) for fairing. Heated grips, Scottoiler, Front forks fitted with RaceTech Goldvalve emulators (tuned by Shock Treatment), Wilbers 641 series shock, Givi panniers, screen. Some spares and lots of info on CD. Mechanically A1. Recently serviced. Some minor cosmetic damage due to its age, but never dropped. This bike is fully sorted. Suspension has been tuned so that it’s comfortable but competent on all road surfaces, including dirt. It is not race-track hard. It is the most comfortable bike I...

MZ have been busy getting ready for 2008 with some great looking styling changes to their 125 range of singles. The below has been taken from their site . Dear Friends, At the beginning of the new season we have something very special for you. Our 125 ccm models have a new look and carry the following names: "Blizzard", "Elegance", "Copper" and Camouflage"....... Your MZ-Team MZ 125 SM Blizzard MZ 125 SM Elegance MZ 125 SX Camouflage MZ 125 SX Copper Of course we wont see these here in Australia. If you own an MZ 125 single I would love to hear from you. Would be great if I could get a road test from someone who owns one.

How much for a MuZ in 2000????

I came across some old Two Wheels magazines today. Several issues from the year 2000. The road racing section was sponsored by MZ with these ads. Shows you how much a MZ cost here in Australia in 2000.

Poking my weak spots....

Jim Duffield knows my weak spots all too well. Travellers and sidecars. He sent me a photo of a Traveller with a sidecar. "Are you grinning yet??" is all he said in his email. Grinning?! I am going weak at the knees. I had previously posted some pics of a Sport and sidecar . This same company also fits chairs to the Traveller. This is what Jim sent me.... So I followed the link and here are the rest. I want to do this to mine and I don't. I know the stress that a chair puts on a modern bike. Maybe in Europe it is different but here down under where we travel huge distances I think the Traveller is too small. But I could be wrong. If it was fitted to a bike here this is what it would look like on the 'correct' side. ;-)

Nose job....

Muzzer, from Belgium, has been busy during his winter. Like all good MuZ Skorpion owners he has been fiddling with his bike again. He has added a Moto Guzzi Mk.I replica fairing to his Sport. Colour matched to the tank. This small addition really changes the way the Sport looks. I like it. Well done mate.

Motoman's Sport. Mean & Lean.....

Mototman from http://forum.monoconnection.nl/ forums has one mean looking MuZ Skorpion Sport. He has done some heaving modding to the running gear of this bike. Lots of SZR660 parts have replaced the standard Skorpion stuff. Forks, wheels, clip-ons all help save weight and greatly improve how the bike sticks to the road. Brembo brakes replace the no so good OEM brakes. She would stop on 1/2 a Euro dollar coin now. The new headlamp setup gives this bike a mean lean aggressive look. The muffler allows the engine note to be heard. All singles should have loud mufflers. Sad thing with this bike is that he has to sell it. http://forum.monoconnection.nl/viewtopic.php?t=1325&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight =

Another convert to the wonderful Traveller...

Paul (old_paul on the ADV forums ) from Dallas Texas is new to the wonderful world of MuZ Skorpions. Here are some photos of his Traveller. Looks like a very well looked after one too. It has only done 3600 miles since new. The muffler fitted is a M4. Thanks for showing us all mate. Paul is not new to MuZ's. He has owned a Mastiff, which his son now owns.

A MuZ Traveller for sale.

Ken from Dungog, NSW contacted me about his Traveller he has been trying to sell. He wanted to know if I knew anyone who wanted to buy his. I don't but have offered to put it here on the blog. Here are the details. I'm a passionate MuZ rider who alas has to sell the machine due to a baby arriving on the scene in February.... Perhaps you know someone who might be interested? It's $3990 with nothing to spend and rego to October 2008. Full details are on www.bikesales.com.au and www.bikepoint.com.au. It's also going in the next issue of the Ulysses mag. For the aficionado it is a Traveller with the faring removed and a decent big round headlight fitted since I ride a bit at night on country roads. It also has a steering damper fitted, though It's done 39,000kms, the last 20,000 in the country with no short journeys. It's a joy to ride and I'd happily set off around Australia tomorrow.... There's a couple of cosmetic nicks and scratches but you have to loo...
